• Honeybees build hexagon shaped cells because that shape can store the most honey while using the least amount of wax.
• A honeybee hive is made up of one queen, thousands of female worker bees, and hundreds of male drone bees. Colonies can contain tens of thousands of bees.
• Honeybees do not hibernate but they do cluster for warmth in the winter.
• It takes a worker bee about 12 hours to secrete 8 wax scales. Around 1,000 scales must be created to make a single gram of wax.
• Propolis is a resinous mixture bees use to seal open spaces in the hive.
